Trek to Chandrashila Summit ( 4000 mtr ) in 11th Nov - 13th Nov 2006

Chandrashila peak is located near the Upper Himalayas range in Gharwal region near Chopta.
It is 500 km (approx.) from Del.
I had heard of the winter summit Chandrashila peak a lot from my friends. Prashant Joshi(my most trusted trekker friend) had also suggested that this is a must do for trekker !! So, I was adamant to scale the summit in year 2006 itself and did not wish to postpone it any longer :)
I got in touch with Girish Upadhaya and Arvind Negi who were interested in trekking. I could sence the craving for trekking in them and both were raring to go to hills !!! Wow,that was such a good sign !!
The timing was crucial. I was told that it had snowed earlier in 15th Oct in the area and more snow was expected. After more telecons ,we finally zeroed for the weekend 11- 13 Nov, for OPERATION CHANDRASHILA !!

We booked the taxi(Indica)for the entire stretch for Del - Rishikesh- Chopta - Rishikesh - Del. We were expected to travel 1000 kms at the rate of Rs 5 per Kilometer and it seemed to be good deal to me.
We planned to camp at Tungnath, hence camping gear(4 men Tent and carrimats, sleeping bag)were obtained from my favourate place IMF, Delhi.

Day 1( Delhi to Tungnath):

Day 2( Tungnath to Chandrashila to Tehri):

Wow must say great job!!!!!!!!! However i m sure u would agree that such awesome, mouthwatering pics couldnt have been clicked without my rechargable batteries. So it is not the camera or the photography skills u posses which made all the difference but it is those efficient batteries which allowed the camera to work endlessly.
Between did i say that i m actually encouraged to visit the places and i m sure ur blog would be provide a great insight.

Kamal Boss yaar MAZZA AA gaya.I always ask u " kahan dol raha hai"?,but if u r going to such places u do not only trek, but u also find energy,God,you feel as if u had a taste of Amrit.And I bet u did find the things I said ,coz I did by just seeing the pictures.I saw the picture of Tungnath mandir and tears came to my eyes coz Babu had been there once ( your Didi told me), just a feeling somewhere in my heart that Babu had gone there so he wanted u too to see the beauty which cannot be seen anywhere in the World.Photographs are GREAT, and than the way u have narrated each and everything.When u were in Chandrashila ,u were there with Mind,Body and Soul.If I can ,now I will take your Didi there it is worth it.But with u.......U have one a great job keep it up. The more I watch these pictures the more I am inclined to venture on an expedition similar to this, it did remind me of my trek tp Pindari glacier when I was a young boy ( not that I have grown old :-),I would take Roop Kund as my trek destination.......Most of Indians dont even realise the beauty of Himalayas,beautiful flora & fauna, a trip to Hills normally means drive to Nainital and ends with a boad ride or a horse ride(and nobody actually goes into the mountains) and the more adventurous kind may reach Kausani but no further.......well these pictures and narration may encourage some of your friends to take the plunge in adventurous world of TREKKING........Good luck mates, keep it up, see you some time in the mountains..........

I went to tunganath-chandrahila last year and then again this year since last time i was unable to reach chandrashila peak due to some reason.
Beauty of the hills can only be felt within when we reach that point and place.So I request u all, just try it out and reach the place, and u will really have memories that u will cherish for the lifetime.....a place worth going
